The Permitting Specialist works with the project development and construction teams to prepare, submit and ensure compliance with land use, environmental, construction, and other permitting needs for utility-scale and distributed generation solar projects. Instructions for applying:

What You'll Do

  • Obtain all permits for projects to the point where full construction can begin (including CUP/IUPs, building permits, stormwater, erosion, and others); prepare permit applications; create and maintain a permit tracking matrix with permit requirements for every project
  • Interface with owners of the land on which we will build solar arrays
  • Document in writing all communication and approvals from permit authorities to mitigate the Company’s risk in obtaining permits, including but not limited to requirements, permissions, and approvals
  • Manage local law/code amendment processes
  • Communicate with subcontractors, regulatory agents, tenants, and clients
  • Develop and lead community outreach strategies
  • Manage government, agency, and consultant relationships
  • Communicate information orally and in writing to internal colleagues as needed to ensure accurate and timely workflow
  • Present to local planning commissions and work with governing authority staff to answer questions and obtain all necessary permit approvals in writing
  • Professionally communicate permit information and build confidence with external partners such as financiers, investors, buyers, and vendors.

Our Ideal Candidate Has

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Urban Planning)
  • 2 years land-use permitting experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
  • An interest in solar energy development and design
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

Bonus Points

  • Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to siting issues and regulatory agency processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare concise and accurate technical documents and develop presentations for internal and external leaders and stakeholders
  • Willingness and ability to clearly define objectives, exercise sound technical judgment, take on increasing levels of responsibility, and thrive in a small, flexible, and dynamic work environment
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal skills, including the ability to communicate in a timely and positive manner with project managers, planning commissions, and members of the construction teams
  • Good problem solving and critical thinking abilities and a proactive work ethic. Must take accountability for own body of work while maintaining accuracy and strict attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to apply innovative and creative skills to problem-solving
