The Environmental Specialist focuses on siting, environmental survey, permitting, and/or compliance monitoring of all solar-related projects and sites. Responsibilities will consist primarily of supporting environmental fieldwork reporting of wetland delineations. Instructions for applying:

What You'll Do

  • Provide task lead and project management assistance with environmental permitting (local, state, and federal) and compliance support 
  • Prepare and submit accurate and complete environmental reports, responses, permit applications, and agency notifications.
  • Assist with the coordination of interdisciplinary work teams and overall task management of field efforts for construction inspection and erosion control monitoring, wetland delineations, and endangered species surveys and monitoring.
  • Perform wetland delineations and compile reports
  • Prepare Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans
  • Prepare SHPO Project Review Requests
  • Assist in staking of sites (access points, project boundaries, etc.)
  • Assist with the completion of and management of the preparation of permit applications and associated environmental reporting.
  • Conduct quality control reviews
  • Provide status and progress reports to customers, project team, and management.
  • Occasionally assist in presenting to local planning commissions and work with regulatory staff to answer questions and obtain all necessary permit approvals in writing.
  • Professionally communicate wetland/environmental information and build confidence with external partners such as financiers, investors, buyers, and vendors.

Our Ideal Candidate Has

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably related to urban planning, environmental science, sustainable management, or natural resource ecology
  • Wetland Delineator Certification - In Training or Professional (or must be obtained ASAP upon hire)
  • Construction Site Management Certification (or must be obtained ASAP upon hire)
  • Design of Construction SWPPP (or must be obtained ASAP upon hire)
  • Clean driving record

Bonus Points

  • Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to siting issues and regulatory agency processes
  • Experience with construction and environmental permitting process
  • Knowledge of soils and plant ID
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare concise and accurate technical documents and develop presentations for internal and external leaders and stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to build consensus and manage expectations of internal and external stakeholders and be comfortable and effective at communicating complex technical knowledge and concepts to other staff, clients, regulatory agencies, and non-technical project stakeholders
  • Good problem solving and critical thinking abilities and a proactive work ethic. Must take accountability for own body of work while maintaining accuracy and strict attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to apply innovative and creative skills to problem-solving
