The Civil Engineer works with the project development and construction teams, as well as the electrical engineer to design and develop solar PV projects.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare or oversee preparation of design documents for photovoltaic solar projects including calculations, drawings, and civil specifications.
  • Oversee and manage drafters.
  • Consult with electrical staff on project layouts.
  • Prepare or oversee preparation of design packages, milestone submissions and as‐built signoffs.
  • Be proficient at grading design, earthwork calculations and hydrological calculations.
  • Design solar facilities with complex topographic, environmental, and other constraints.
  • Prepare final Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans.
  • Review plans and specifications for constructability, site constraints, topography, and risk management.
  • Coordinate technical activities and designs with personnel in other disciplines and departments within the local office.
  • Assist with other duties assigned to provide professional and technical support on multiple projects.
  • Provide value engineering.
  • Maintain a culture of continuous improvement and problem solving.

Our Ideal Candidate Has

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • Three years minimum of engineering experience performing civil design and development of solar projects in a fast‐paced environment.
  • PE preferred, EIT required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Two years minimum of supervisory experience in related field.
  • Proficiency with reading blueprints, plans, specs, contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders.
  • Is detail‐oriented and efficient in problem solving.
  • An interest in renewable energy development and design.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

Bonus Points

  • Licensed P.E. in the state of MN, or the ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.
  • NCEES Council Record is preferred.
  • Understanding of electrical design process.
  • Willingness and ability to clearly define objectives, exercise sound technical judgment, take on increasing levels of responsibility and to thrive in a small, flexible, and dynamic work environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal skills, including the ability to communicate in a positive manner with project managers, other engineering/design team members, management and installation contractors to foster an environment of superior coordination.
  • Good problem solving and critical thinking abilities and a proactive work ethic. Must take accountability of own body of work, closing each project by design completion efficiently, while maintaining accuracy and strict attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to apply innovative and creative skills to problem solving.
  • Experience with on‐site troubleshooting of technology and automation of manual processes.
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code is preferred.
