The chief financial officer position provides the leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure that the company has the proper financial controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place to effectively grow the organization and to ensure financial strength and risk management. The CFO is accountable for the financial operations of the company, as well as the development of financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve and grow company assets and report accurate financial results.

What You'll Do

  • Be responsible for driving the company to achieve strong financing of solar projects, profitability, cash flow, asset management and business goals and objectives. Provide day-to-day leadership and management to a service organization that mirrors the adopted mission and core values of the company. Bottom line: Build a world-class Finance department and beautiful company.

  • Spearhead the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes.
  • Cash Flow Management
    • Ensure project cash flows are adequately management
    • Ensure NES is managing through metrics
    • Match costs with financing (i.e., limit out of pocket expense)
    • Cash flow modeling and understanding not just what the model says, but how to improve it
  • Financing
    • Arrange strong debt and tax equity for project purchases.
    • Handle M&A transactions post LOI and assist on closing.
    • Understand perm debt, construction debt and tax equity.
    • Financial modeling of projects.
  • Execution Improvement
    • Numbers don’t lie. Use these to help managers improve their divisions through thoughtful questions and raising of issues or improvements shown in the numbers
  • Investor Communication
    • Proactively addresses investors’ concerns and sends timely reports.
    • Ensure financing partner is managing through metrics.
  • Asset Management
    • Track system performance, collections, and operating costs.
    • Timely reports to investors and banks.
  • Reporting
    • Ensure the company has the insights and reports it needs to track cash flow, profitability, asset value, etc.
    • Not only create but use the reports (i.e., take the information and use it to drive improvements).
  • Control and manage any audits, year-end books and accounting, monthly reports to track relevant financial and performance data along with tracking acquisition and project costs and financings.
  • Manage the processes for financial forecasting and budgets, and oversee the preparation of all financial reporting, including tax filings for the company and get timely reports out to investors.
  • Advise on long-term business and financial planning. Collaborate with the CEO and management team to develop and implement plans for the financial infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate the rapid growth objectives of our organization.
  • Manage day to day relations with lenders, finance partners, and vendors.
  • Assist, as required, in raising additional capital at appropriate valuations to enable the Company to meet sales, growth, and market share objectives.

To be successful in this role, we need you to be competent and have the ability to:
  • Understand complex financial models related to project performance, tax equity and various types of debt.

  • Manage, understand, and use feedback from customers, vendors, investors, other stakeholders to add value.

Our Ideal Candidate Has

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance and/or Accounting from a four-year college or university.
  • Extensive experience managing and directing the financial functions of a privately held, high-growth company.
  • Knowledge of accounting theory including processes to categorize financial information and transactions according to GAAP, tax, and other reporting needs.
  • Strong technical skills, with proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proven experience managing an accounting team, including AR, AP, and controller, as well as FP&A, with high involvement in identifying and developing talent
  • Proven experience with audits and reports on audited financials, monthly closings, and annual budgeting.
  • Experience raising capital, either equity or debt, for a business.

  • Demonstrated experience in financial planning and analysis with previous experience overseeing human resources, information technology, and legal.
  • Extensive financial experience in the construction industry.
  • Experience with tax equity and capital markets.
  • Experience managing complex financial organizations.
  • Skilled in organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource development, and strategic planning.
  • Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team.
  • Possess personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to corporate mission.
  • Flexible and able to multitask; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.
  • CPA license.
  • Experience with Vista by Viewpoint ERP system.
  • Experience implementing an ERP system.
  • Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team.
